Terms & Conditions for participation in a Lifeguarding Instructor Course
​offered by Guards Get Trained, LLC.


All 
participants and/or the guardian of participants under age 18 must sign a waiver of liability in order to participate in any training or activities conducted by Guards Get Trained, LLC.       Minor Liability Waiver       Adult Liability Waiver      COVID Waiver


Participants must be able to perform all basic level lifeguarding skills to the standard during the pre-course skills evaluation held on the first night of the course. Individuals that do not meet the course pre-requisites or are unable to perform Lifeguarding Course skills to the standard will not be able to continue in the course and will forfeit the $125 non-refundable deposit. Once participants complete the pre-course skills evaluation the balance of the course fee is due and becomes non-refundable. Participants that are unable to successfully complete the Instructor Course will not be granted a refund or credit. In extenuating circumstances, requests for refund/credit (partial or whole) or transfer to another class will be considered on a case by case basis but are not guaranteed.


Course Pre-requisites

  • Be at least 17 years old on or before the last day of the instructor course (proof of age using government-issued photo ID) and possess a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED.  
  • Successfully complete the online Orientation to the Red Cross and Lifeguarding course.
  • Successfully complete the Precourse Skills Evaluation Session.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform all lifeguarding and CPR skills to the standard during the pre-course session.


To become certified as a Lifeguarding instructor, instructor candidates must:

  • Successfully complete the Online Session.
  • Successfully complete the Precourse Session.
  • Attend and actively participate in all course sessions.
  • Successfully complete class activities, including the four practice-teaching assignments.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform all lifeguarding and CPR skills to the standard during all skill sessions.
  • Score a minimum of 80% on the instructor course final written exam.


Participants should take the time to train and prepare themselves in advance of the Lifeguarding Instructor Course.  Participants are expected to be able to know and be able to perform all lifeguarding and CPR skills to the standard without coaching, prompting, or assistance from the Instructor Trainer or other participants. 


IMPORTANT:

  • Participants that do not show up for the course will forfeit all registration fees.  
  • Participants that are unable to successfully complete the Instructor Course will not be given a refund or credit for the registration fees.


What to Bring:

  1. Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification
  2. Government Issued Photo ID
  3. Signed Liability Waivers (see links above)
  4. Lifeguarding r.17 Instructor Manual (printed copy)
  5. Lifeguarding r.17 Participant Manual (print or digital copy is acceptable)
  6. Swim Suit, towel, and comfortable clothes for performing CPR/First Aid skills (secure fitting one-piece is strongly suggested)
  7. Hip pack, pocket mask w/ 1-way valve, gloves - (loaners will be available as needed)
  8. Goggles (for observing skills performed underwater). 
  9. USB thumb drive 3.0 - 8 GB space available minimum. (optional - course information is available in digital format).


100% class attendance is required. All participants must arrive by the scheduled start of the class and remain until the class is dismissed. Participants that do not maintain 100% attendance will not be able to successfully complete the course and receive certification. Refunds, transfers, and make-ups will not be given for participants that fail to maintain 100% attendance.


Participants should be prepared to participate in both classroom and in-water activities throughout each class session. Participants should wear comfortable clothes for classroom activities, CPR and first aid skills.  You may want to bring a sweatshirt if the classroom area is cold.  Participants should wear a secure fitting swimsuit and have at least one towel (2-3 towels may be desired).  Individuals with long hair should tie their hair back during all skill sessions.


Identification verification is required for this course. Please bring a valid government issued photo identification.
